So Mendel observed that in the F1
generation all seeds had a yellow
colour.

Yellow green all Yellow

Than he crossed these yellow
coloured seeds of the F1 generation
and he observed that not all seeds
of the F2 generation had a yellow
colour, but that some seeds  had
again a green colour.

Apparently the recessive
characteristic was not lost in the F1
generation at all which meant that
there is thus indeed strong
evidence for the presence of
discrete units of heredity that occur
in pairs.
